Witch monument

The community of Beselare is widely known as witches' village. It was said to be haunted in several areas during the 17th and 18th centuries and even up to the First World War. In contrast with other villages that held a vivid superstitiHerb gardenon, the stories of Beselare were noted down by local writers. The witches are brought to life in a biannual witches parade. The parade takes place every two years on the last Sunday of July in commemoration of the death of our most notorious witch Sefa Bubbels on that very date in 1750. There is also a witches' monument made of bronze on the market square as well as a herb garden.
