Today, Passendale is not only associated with the First World War, but is
also internationally known for its cheese which has been produced since 1932.
The old cheesemakery was completely renovated in 2002. Today visitors are
given a unique glimpse into the art of cheese-m
aking. The Old Cheesemakery
is much more than a museum; it gives an experimental and interactive introduction
into cheese and its different aspects. Here you can smell, feel and taste
cheese. Its beautiful location - and its spacious cafeteria with dining facilities
- makes it a necessary stop on every hiking or cycling expedition and a perfect
base for further visits to the region.
